The supplement industry runs largely
on trust that hasn't been earned.
In the United States, brands are not required to prove their products work before going to market, and compliance with quality standards is largely self-reported. Pre-market enforcement is limited. This means the word "quality" on a supplement label is, by itself, unverifiable.
Absolutely Balanced was built on the premise that showing your work is not optional. This page is that work.
What follows is a detailed explanation of how our products are sourced, formulated, manufactured, and tested. Not a list of claims. The actual documentation behind them.
"Quality" is the most overused,
least verified word in this industry.
Every brand says it. Almost no one defines it. Here is what it actually means, specifically the four places where most supplements quietly fall short.
The Form of the Ingredient Matters More Than the Name
When a label says "magnesium," that word alone tells you almost nothing useful. Magnesium comes in many forms, and they behave very differently in your body. Some forms pass through with minimal absorption. Others are specifically structured to be recognized and transported by your intestinal lining the way minerals in food are. The difference isn't marginal. Some forms absorb at a fraction of what others do at the same dose.
The same logic applies to B vitamins, omega-3s, probiotics, and nearly every other supplement category. The ingredient name on the front of the bottle is the starting point, not the answer. The form listed in the supplement facts is where the real information lives. At Absolutely Balanced, we use the forms your body can actually use, and we name them specifically on every label so you can verify them yourself.
The Dose on the Label Has to Actually Be in the Bottle
This sounds obvious. It is not standard practice. Supplements are often tested at manufacture, when potency is at its peak. What happens between that date and the day you open the bottle is rarely documented. Probiotics are the most visible example: a product labeled 50 billion CFU may be a fraction of that by the time it reaches you, because potency was only confirmed the day it was bottled. But the same degradation risk applies across vitamins, herbal extracts, and other sensitive compounds.
Our trademarked ingredients are potency-verified by their suppliers before reaching our manufacturer. Our finished products are independently tested for heavy metals and microbial safety every batch, and those results are published. As we confirm additional finished-product testing across our line, that documentation will be added to the relevant COAs.
What Is NOT in It Matters Too
No artificial colors. No artificial sweeteners. No preservatives. No wheat, corn protein, yeast, soy, or dairy unless absolutely unavoidable. No proprietary blends that obscure what you're actually taking. Every ingredient is listed. Every form is named. What you see on the label is what is in the capsule.
But clean formulation is only half of it. Our products are independently tested for heavy metals, harmful pathogens, and contaminants, with the scope depending on the product and its specific risk profile. Not because we assume the worst about our suppliers. Because we don't ask you to assume the best about us. The results are documented in a Certificate of Analysis and published. We don't summarize. We show you the actual lab documents.
Label Transparency Is Non-Negotiable
Where most brands list a generic ingredient name, Absolutely Balanced lists the specific form and its source. "Methylcobalamin" instead of "B12." "Zinc Bisglycinate Chelate (TRAACSā¢)" instead of "zinc." Where blends exist, we go as deep as we can. Our probiotic formula, for example, uses a proprietary blend by weight, but names and identifies every individual strain within it by clinical ID. The goal is always the most useful information possible, not the minimum required.
Every ingredient has tiers.
We choose the top one.
The price difference in a quality supplement isn't margin. It's ingredient cost. Here is exactly what we're paying for at every step, and why the cheaper version is rarely actually cheaper when your body can't absorb it.
That is quality, not markup. Every tier costs more. We chose the top tier.
Most brands ask you to
take their word for it.
A Certificate of Analysis is a document produced by an independent laboratory that verifies what is actually in a finished supplement. Heavy metals. Microbial contaminants. Potency. Ingredient identity. It confirms that what the label claims is what the product contains, and that what isn't supposed to be there isn't.
Most supplement brands trust their suppliers. They order a product, the supplier says it passed quality control, and that is the end of the conversation. Many brands have never seen a Certificate of Analysis. Some don't know what one is. The brands that do request COAs often receive them, file them internally, and never show them to a customer. Sharing the actual lab documents is not standard practice in this industry. It is a choice.
Absolutely Balanced publishes annotated COAs. Not because we are required to. Because transparency is our standard, not the exception.
Independent Laboratory Testing
Our COAs are produced by third-party laboratories with no financial stake in the results. They test what they find, not what we want them to find. The same facility that tests our finished product has no involvement in manufacturing it.
Heavy Metals via ICP-MS
ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) is the most sensitive heavy metals detection method available in supplement manufacturing. Our results sit at or below detection thresholds for lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. Most brands that test at all publish a pass/fail summary. We publish the actual numbers.
AOAC Microbial Testing
Seven harmful pathogens tested per batch using AOAC-validated methods. E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and others. All negative, every batch. Published, not promised.
Annotated, Not Just Attached
A raw COA is a dense laboratory document. We annotate ours so you can see what you're reading, what each test was looking for, and what the result actually means in plain language. The goal is informed confidence, not informed confusion.
For trademarked ingredients like TRAACSĀ® and EPAXĀ®, the raw materials are already verified by the supplier's independent laboratory before they reach our manufacturer. Then the finished blend is tested again. That is what we mean when we say sometimes, twice. Two independent checkpoints before a product ships.
This is what
"manufactured to standard" actually means.
-
FDA-Registered, cGMP-Certified U.S. Facilities All manufacturing is done in FDA-registered facilities operating under Current Good Manufacturing Practices. This is not a self-certification. It is a verifiable federal compliance status, subject to inspection.
-
Clean-Room Manufacturing All production takes place in isolated, controlled environments designed to prevent cross-contamination between products, ingredients, and batches. Critical for anyone with allergies, dietary restrictions, or ethical considerations like veganism.
-
Third-Party COA Testing: Published Batch by Batch An independent laboratory with no financial interest in the outcome tests heavy metals, microbial contaminants, potency, and ingredient identity. We publish the annotated source files. Not a summary. Not a claim. The actual documents.
-
Raw Material Vetting Before Production Every ingredient is vetted before it enters manufacturing. For our trademarked ingredients, the raw materials are already verified by the supplier's laboratory before they reach us. Then we test the finished blend again. That is what "sometimes, twice" means. Current Absolutely Balanced formulas feature trademarked, independently verified ingredients including TRAACSĀ® and AlbionĀ® chelated minerals (Albion Laboratories), DimaCalā¢, QuatrefolicĀ® (Gnosis S.p.A.), SunvitolĀ® (Nutralliance), OptiMSMĀ® (Bergstrom Nutrition), vitaMK7Ā® (Gnosis), EPAXĀ® from Norway, PharmaGABAĀ® (Pharma Foods International), AlphaWaveĀ®, CreapureĀ®, MagnafolateĀ® C, MerivaĀ® and BerbevisĀ® (Indena S.p.A.), ReloraĀ® (Lonza), SunfiberĀ® (Taiyo International), Kaneka Ubiquinolā¢, and KSM-66Ā® (Ixoreal Biomed), among others. As the line grows, every new product is held to the same sourcing standard.
-
No Hidden Anything No artificial colors, sweeteners, or preservatives. No added wheat, corn protein, yeast, soy, or dairy unless unavoidable. No unnecessary fillers buried in "other ingredients." And because nobody has ever said "I'll take a dose of magnesium with a side of E. coli, please" ... that is exactly why products are tested for heavy metals and harmful pathogens, with results documented and published.
Trusted practitioners.
Not always supplement experts.
Your chiropractor is brilliant at body mechanics. Your dietician knows food-based nutrition. Your physical therapist understands injury. These are real experts, and their supplement recommendations are almost always made with genuinely good intentions.
But here is the honest question worth asking: does your provider know the difference between magnesium citrate and magnesium malate? Between a generic chelate and a TRAACSĀ® verified chelate? Between a probiotic with named clinical strain IDs and one that simply lists a CFU count?
Many health providers carry supplements as a service, and as a supplemental revenue stream, without having gone deep enough into the formulation science to fully vet what they're recommending. That is not a criticism. It is a gap in an industry that doesn't require them to know what they don't know.
You deserve to know. Absolutely Balanced is built for the person who wants to understand exactly what they are taking and exactly why it was chosen.
This is not standard practice
in this industry. It should be.
Where most brands list a generic ingredient name, we list the specific form and its source. Where most brands keep their COAs internal, we publish ours. Where most brands say "trust us," we try to give you something to look at instead. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the one we think you deserve.
Ingredient Transparency
Specific forms named. Verified sources listed. Where ingredients can be broken out individually, they are. Where proprietary blends are used, every component within the blend is still named. What you see on the label is what is in the product.
Published COAs
Certificates of Analysis from independent laboratory testing. Heavy metals, microbial testing, ingredient verification. We publish the annotated source files: not a pass/fail summary, the actual documents, so you can see what the tests found and what they were looking for.
Bioavailable Forms Only
We don't use cheap forms because they look good on a label. Every ingredient is selected for what your body can actually absorb and use, not what costs least to produce.
Therapeutic Doses, Not Label Decoration
Ingredient amounts that may actually reach a functional threshold. Not the trace amounts that let a brand add an ingredient to the label without delivering any real benefit.
The quality starts at the
foundation.
If you're going to invest in top-tier ingredients, start where it matters most. The Absolutely Balanced 3-Month Foundations Bundle is TRAACSĀ® minerals, EPAXĀ® omega-3, clinically strain-identified probiotics, and AlbionĀ® magnesium. Third-party COA verified. The structural layer your supplement routine has been missing.
